The unfortunate day has come. OnePlus now has announced on their forums that OxygenOS 10.0.1 was the last build released for the OnePlus 5 and 5T. OnePlus devices (at the exception of Nord N10 5G and Nord N100) enjoy a 2 year period of major Android updates, along with an additional year of security updates.

The OnePlus 5 and 5T were released in 2017, which is 3.5 years ago already. As per official software maintenance schedule, the period is now unfortunately over.

For reference OxygenOS 10.0.1 changelog is written below

System

  • Fixed the abnormal call recording issue
  • Fixed the de-activated alarm issue when the phone was powered off
  • Updated Android Security Patch to 2020.09
  • Updated GMS package to 2020.08

Full Screen Gestures

  • Back gesture from the bottom of the screen is available (OP5T only)

Camera

  • Electronic Image Stabilization has been added, bringing you the more stable shooting experience

ZIPs were added in app as soon as rollout started and that their filenames were submitted to us, so you do not need to wait to install OxygenOS 10.0.1 if you have not already.

This is a sad day for 5/5T owners, especially as OxygenOS 10.0.1 was released not only with an outdated security patch (September while build rolled out in November), but also as initial build OxygenOS 10.0 was released at the end of May 2020 with February patches and an issue with camera EIS (electronic image stabilization) that was told to be fixed soon. Not to mention OnePlus acknowledged lack of bi-monthly builds only in September 2020, after press reached out to them.

A device being end of life from a manufacturer point of view doesn't prevent you from using it anymore, but you may want to use custom ROMs such as LineageOS should you want updated Android security patches. Mind however that flashing a custom ROM requires to unlock your bootloader and to wipe your device data.
