OnePlus announces last Open Betas for the 6 and 6T

We were expecting an OB7 build to be released soon, but unfortunately, OnePlus has announced that Open Beta 6 is the last OB for both OnePlus 6 and 6T. OB6 was released around 7th April 2020, so it's been almost a month now. Previously, OnePlus used to announce the end of an OB update track after a new phone launch, and this time it's the same situation. This is probably because OnePlus is going to focus on the newer devices (8-series).

What does this mean for you as a user that runs the Open Beta?

There are two options:

  • You can switch back to the stable branch (recommended). Moving back to the stable branch from the beta branch will require a full install and clean flash (FULL WIPE of all data and cache). There are some rollback builds available, made by OnePlus at the end of this post: https://forums.oneplus.com/threads/rollback-build-for-oneplus-6-and-6t-open-beta-testers.1217210/. Once you're back on the stable branch, you'll continue to receive stable updates, also via Oxygen Updater (just set your "Update method" to either "Full update" or "Incremental update", depending on whether you have an unlocked bootloader or not - you can find this in the app's settings).
  • You can remain on the Open Beta track, even though you won't receive any more betas. However, keep in mind that you won't receive new features, security patches, or bug-fixes anymore.

Note (if you choose option 1 - rolling back to 10.3.2 stable):

You can back up your data using OnePlus Switch - which you can restore after the rollback process is complete.
