Developer Preview 2 is now available and has just been announced by Abdul B. on the OnePlus Forums. This update fixes some issues and even adds some features.  At the same time, the list of known issues has been expanded. We have updated the changelog and known issues list in the original article. Furthermore, the post also contains rollback packages for the 9 and 9 Pro, which brings you back to OxygenOS 11.2.8.8. Do mind that rolling back wipes data. The DP2 update for both the 9 and 9 Pro EU lack, because of stricter EU policies. Therefore, a OnePlus employee says they can't supply a specific EU-build. We have updated the original article below for your convenience.

2021-06-02 21:20 IST:

There's a new hotfix build for DP1, as posted by Abdul B. on OnePlus Forums. This new build is still DP1, and the only difference in the OTA version number is the compilation date (2nd June 2021 vs 19th May 2021). OnePlus claims this hotfix solves the soft-brick issues in the earlier build, but it brings no new features (so it should be safe to try DP1 now if you didn't do so earlier). Also, it seems like global/NA devices can also install this build, though we must remind you to exercise some caution.

2021-05-18 22:02 GMT:

OnePlus' community consultant David Monteiro announced he temporarily removed the download links of the Developer Preview following user feedback on the announcement thread. This is most likely due to devices being unable to go past setup screen and bootlooping, even if their owners chose to not copy data of a previous device. We advise affected users to contact OnePlus' customer support so that their device can be recovered to a working build of Android 11.

At this time, only the 9 and 9 Pro devices can install this DP. We will update this article and send notifications again, in case more devices get supported.

If you received a notification about this article and you don't own a 9 or 9 Pro device, we sincerely apologize.

The preview is a way for enthusiasts and developers to explore the latest and greatest in terms of Android versions. However, it is NOT stable at all. So it's not recommended to install this on your main phone. Do NOT install if you don't have previous experience in beta testing.

With Developer Preview 2, the following things have been added/fixed/changed:

System

  • Optimized the auto-brightness algorithm to adapt screen brightness to more scenes for a comfortable screen reading experience
  • Optimized the mistouch prevention algorithm for curved screens to reduce accidental touches

New design

  • Added widgets that show key information of apps and provide instant access to functions
  • Optimized the page layout and the presentation of text and color to make key information stand out

Convenience & efficiency

  • Added swiftly switch floated windows, make operation more convenient

Games

  • Optimized the frame rate performance under heavy-used scenes

Camera

  • Added the feature that supported customize the display order of camera mode
  • Optimized the zoom experience, make it zoom more smoothly

Performance

  • Added the form of chart to display battery usage
  • Newly supported pre-loading the apps that frequently used, to switch them on quickly
  • Improved the response speed of turning on or off Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Airplane mode, and NFC

Below are the known issues for reference

  • The Camera does not support Xpan, and contains some stability issues
  • This version does not support scrolling screenshot
  • The icon of Bluetooth connection displays abnormally
  • The icon of charging displays abnormally
  • The Cloud Service is unavailable (India)
  • The Camera app does not contain Hasselblad elements
  • This version does not adapt some third-party apps
  • The included Google Phone app does not feature call record functionality. This can be solved by updating the app in Play Store.
  • Three-finger swipe down gesture or three-finger long-press gesture after using the screen recorder. This can be overcome by pressing Power button and Volume Down button simultaneously instead to screenshot.

Which devices support the preview?

  • OnePlus 9 (all variants except carrier-branded e.g. TMO/VZW)
  • OnePlus 9 Pro (all variants except carrier-branded e.g. TMO/VZW)

Other devices (8T, 8-series, etc) may get the Android 11/R Developer Preview soon.

Where can I get the preview?

Before installing, please ensure your battery level is at least 30% and you have at least 3GB space left on your device.

You can install the preview using the app itself (switch to the "Android 12/S Developer Preview" update method - you might have to enable "Advanced mode" as well) or by visiting the forum thread listed below:

Can I revert to the stable version of OxygenOS?

Yes, please read the forum thread of your device as linked above for detailed instructions. Rolling back will completely wipe all your data, so please take a backup before proceeding.

Below are the rollback/downgrade packages for 9 and 9 Pro devices. Make sure you choose the correct rollback package for your device and region. We are providing these links purely for your convenience, as rolling back isn't natively supported by our app. After downloading the correct rollback package, move the file from the "Downloads" directory to the topmost directory of internal storage (the same directory that the "Downloads" folder is in). Then, install this APK, open the app (OP Local Update) -> cog icon in the top right and choose the rollback package.

Rollback packages

The following packages will rollback your device to the currently latest Android 11 stable version, and will wipe all your data. These are not the packages you should download if you're looking to update to Android 12/S. For that, close this news article and change your update method to "Android 12/S Developer Preview" in the app's settings.

Please take great care in downloading the rollback package meant ONLY for your specific device and region.
