OnePlus is a company which puts a lot of effort into its products. They've launched many great devices, almost every device being an improvement to its predecessor (well, except for the OnePlus X, but that's another story). Since the last 2 years, they've kept releasing 2 flagship phones per year!

Since the OnePlus 5T has already been out for a while, it was time for OnePlus to develop a new product. And what would be the name of it? Well, by now you'll have guessed it: The OnePlus 6!

The main focus of OnePlus on the OnePlus 6 is speed. OnePlus aims to launch a device which features a super-fast processor, the latest graphics technology and of course a nice-looking screen.

Screen

The OnePlus 6 features a 6.2 inch large, 19:9 AMOLED screen. The screen covers almost the entire front of the phone, featuring a notch, much like the iPhone X has. To make things a bit easier, OnePlus added some gestures for switching between apps and returning to the home screen. Lastly, it also supports the sRGB and DCI-P3 color standards, offering support for wider color gamuts.

Cameras

The OnePlus 6 features dual cameras, much like the OnePlus 5 and 5T did. This time, you'll get both a 16MP and 20MP camera on the rear-side. The rear-facing cameras feature Optical Image stabilization (OIS) for taking sharper pictures and super-slomo for taking slo-mo videos at 480fps.

In the near future, both the front and rear-facing cameras will support Portrait Mode, a special effect to apply depth-of-field (blurring) to photos. However, you'll have to wait (and use Oxygen Updater) to get it when a future software update brings this feature.

Waterproof

The OnePlus 6 is OnePlus' first waterproof smartphone. It resists splashes, an accidental drop in the bathtub and a rain shower, but OnePlus clearly advices not to swim with it. Nevertheless, it is still great to have a device that can resist some water.

Software

The OnePlus 6 ships with OxygenOS 5.1.x, based on Android 8.1.0. The version is largely the same as on OnePlus 5 / 5T, but includes support for the screen notch and a better gaming mode to fully utilize the speed of the OnePlus 6.

Android "P" beta program

A really cool thing to mention is the availability of Android P developer betas for the OnePlus 6. These allow app makers and other interested users to test out the latest upcoming version of Android, codename "P". The betas are not meant for daily usage as they are not fully stable and do not offer the benefits of OxygenOS to the OnePlus 6 (such as camera features and support for the Alert Slider). Android P betas will be available from May 16th, right after the official announcement.

Availability

OnePlus 6 sales started on May 22nd, 2018. The 256GB version went a bit later on sale, but should be available by now. As usual, system updates are available in Oxygen Updater for all available update methods, including the Android P beta mentioned above!

Pricing and variants

There are three storage options available: 64GB, 128GB and 256GB. Prices vary between $529 (64GB) and $629 (256GB). Colors include Mirror black (dark black) for the 64 / 128GB variants, Midnight black (more grey-ish) for the 128/256GB variants and Silk white (128GB only). You can buy the OnePlus 6 online from May 22nd.
