OnePlus skipped Open Beta 3 after cancelling its rollout due to AOD issues

We usually do not write news items when new software updates become available for OnePlus devices, however we exceptionally do today as we have received on our Discord server and by email a lot of queries related to OnePlus 7 Open Beta 3 availability.

OnePlus announced on February 28th OxygenOS 11 Open Beta 3 for the OnePlus 7 and 7 Pro, but cancelled OnePlus 7 rollout at the last minute. As per community consultant David Monteiro, this was due to many AOD (Always on Display) issues that ended up making the build not suitable for OnePlus' Open Beta releases standard. Whilst his message said "this build will be released as soon as possible", we can only notice that OnePlus chose to not release a version freed of the AOD issues once they were sorted out by software team, and preferred delivering Open Beta 4. That being said, please note that as said by OnePlus themselves on forum post, enabling AOD feature may lead to increased power consumption, but this should be sorted in future Open Beta builds.

Open Beta 4 includes Open Beta 3 fixes, so slow charging, Wi-Fi and lagging issues you may have been encountered on Open Beta 2 should be fixed now. Weirdly enough, it still includes outdated January 2021 security patches (this article was written on 20th March 2021), even though the build was compiled more recently (2021-03-19) than OnePlus 8T Open Beta 2 (2021-03-10; which was released yesterday and includes March 2021 security patches). Hopefully a stable release of OxygenOS 11 will follow soon, as David Yang (ex-member of Community team which is now part of OxygenOS one) said it should happen during this month.
