OnePlus 9 Pro was certified for AER today. We've updated the article to reflect this information.

The OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro have been announced by OnePlus in March 2021, alongside a T-Mobile USA carrier variant for each of them.
As per recent updated software maintenance schedule, they are set to receive four years of security updates and three platform (major Android versions) upgrades. They recently received OxygenOS 11.2.8.8, which brought July 2021 security patches as well as Bitmoji AOD feature which was advertised during OnePlus 8T launch event.

On July 28th 2021, Google updated its Android Enterprise website to add the OnePlus 9 to its listing of recommended devices. The OnePlus 9 Pro isn't officially listed yet, but OnePlus' security page claims since at least July 14 it is part of the program too, alongside 8-series, Nord, Nord N10 5G and Nord N100 has been added to the list on August 12th 2021.

What is that Android Enterprise Recommended Program about?

For reference, AER program started in February 2018, but initially included few devices whilst as of writing 339 are a part of it. While this news may not matter much to average consumers, we believed it was worth publishing for owners of the 9 and 9 Pro using their device for work purposes, as some companies (e.g. Google) may not allow devices to join their internal network if they do not abide to several requirements, one of them being security patches being delivered within 90 days of their announcement.

You can find the requirements for Android 11 devices below, divided into different categories:

  • Knowledge Worker Devices
    • Minimum hardware requirements: 3GB RAM, 32GB storage, 64-bit architecture, etc.
    • At least one major Android version update should be delivered
    • Every major OS upgrade must comply with all the Android Enterprise Recommended requirements for that release to maintain the device’s program status
  • Rugged Devices
    • Minimum hardware requirements: 2GB RAM, 16GB storage, IP54 & MIL-STD-810G or IEC 62-2-32 certified, etc.
    • At least one major Android version update should be delivered
    • Security updates should be delivered within 90 days of release from Google
    • Every major OS upgrade must comply with all the Android Enterprise Recommended requirements for that release to maintain the device’s program status
