Android 8 "Oreo" - Now available for OnePlus 5
OxygenOS 5.0 is now available for the OnePlus 5!
It contains the latest and greatest in terms of android versions: Android 8.0 "Oreo". It also has some minor new features, such as updated security patches and better Wi-Fi stability.
A really cool feature worth mentioning is "Parallell Apps". Parallell apps allows you to have multiple instances of the same app. This is handy for social (network) apps, such as Whatsapp and Facebook. You can now have both your work and personal account on one phone.
For users of the beta version:
The official release follows after a series of beta versions were made available. Those were not very stable and were also not intended for the general public. Now that the official version is available, users running the beta will continue to receive new beta versions. These contain other new features and changes.
It is not very easy to go back to the stable version. It requires you to wipe your phone and set it up as if it were new. OnePlus has made instructions for this on their forums.
For users with a rooted device / custom recovery:
Please note, that automatic update installation using Oxygen Updater might fail, as TWRP recovery currently has some issues on Android 8.0 "Oreo". Be prepared to install the update manually or using the stock recovery mode.
