OnePlus 3 & 3T will get Android P (9.0)

OnePlus has announced that both the OnePlus 3 and the OnePlus 3T will get an update to Android P, the latest and greatest Android version which will be released by Google very soon.

This is a surprising move, considering the fact that OnePlus had been stating that Android 8.1 would be the latest update for the 3 and the 3T.

However, they've changed their minds and decided to skip the 8.1 update in favor of an update to Android P. The P update is scheduled after the OnePlus 6, 5 and 5T have gotten it.

When will I get it?

OnePlus has currently not given any ETAs for the update, but my guess is that it will come somewhere between January and March of 2019. I based this estimate on the fact that last year's Oreo update came around November for the first wave of devices (5/5T) and at the end of December for the second wave of devices (3/3T). With the 3/3T now becoming the third wave to get the update, I expect it to drop during early 2019.
